Your House Is Covered
Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling. Psalm 91:9-10
Are you worried about your family or your loved ones? Then make God your refuge. Verses 9 and 10 of Psalm 91 addressed that very question. God is your refuge, a place or institution that brings safety and shelter from pursuit, danger, or trouble if you make Him your safety net. After God repeats our part of the condition in verse nine, He then re-emphasizes the promise in verse ten: “…nor will it come near your dwelling place (your household).” It is at this point in the psalm that the Bible makes this covenant more comprehensive than just being about ourselves!
In the Old Testament as Joshua was preparing the people of God for the journey ahead, he shared these words ‘Then choose for yourselves today whom you will serve; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord’. –Joshua 24:15
The promise is true for our household as well. We exercise faith not just for ourselves but also for the protection of our entire household. In doing so, we are setting up a standard for all to trust in God. As Joshua made the decision that his household would serve God with him, he was influencing their destiny and declaring their protection at the same time.
When our hearts are steadfast, and we are trusting in His faithfulness to fulfill His promises. We’ll not be constantly afraid that something bad is going to happen to one of our family members.
As this psalm points out, God is a safe object of trust for all people.
Prayer for today: Thank you, Lord that Your covenant protection is not just for me, but for my household as well. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Amen
