Yahweh, The I Am
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1
Psalm 23, so often quoted and cherished, holds a depth of encouragement and peace when we pause and meditate on each word. When David begins with “The Lord,” he is invoking the name of Yahweh—the eternal, unchanging God. The I Am that Is. Yahweh, the God of all creation, the God of forever. He is not distant, far away in the heavens, but near and present. He is the God of now, not the God of what could be or what was. He is the I Am always, forever, with us.
He is not a God of temporary promises, but the God of forever. That’s why He is.
Is, refers to God being present and active in your life. Notice the word “is” the Scripture doesn’t say “was” or “will be,” but is. It’s an active declaration of God’s present reality in our lives. God doesn’t just exist as a vague figure in our history; He’s here now. Every moment of every day, He is working in your life. He is actively present, holding your life in His hands, guiding and sustaining you. In every high and low, He is.!
Today, as you reflect on who God is, I pray you will begin to appreciate the beauty of His presence in your life.
Prayer for today: Yahweh, I stand in awe of Your greatness. You are the eternal “I Am”. The God who was, who is, and who forever will be. Your power, Your love, and Your faithfulness transcend all understanding. I thank You for being my Creator, my Sustainer, and my Redeemer. I thank You for Your constant guidance, Your unwavering protection, and Your never-ending love. Amen.
