Wide, Long and Deep
Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Ephesians 3: 17-19
Meditating on Ephesians 3:17-19 never fails to blow my mind. This passage speaks about the width, the length and the depth of God’s love. Being a visual person, I try to envision the magnitude of God’s love, but with this verse I can’t! Paul is telling us that the love of Christ is huge but grasping that is not always easy.
We could skim over these verses and think, yes, the Lord loves me, but it says so much more than that. Paul’s prayer is that we, the Lord’s Holy people, grasp how wide and long and high and deep is His love. It seems to me that Paul is saying there are no boundaries to this love.
Isn’t this amazing? Paul prays that we will grasp this. He knows it is not easy for us to understand this type of love. He knows it surpasses our understanding as human beings, but he prays that we will grasp it.
I encourage you today to stop and meditate on this verse. I pray that you will immerse yourself in the limitless love of Christ.
Prayer for today: Father God, we thank You for Your word. We thank You that, as we spend time in Your word, a deeper understanding fills our spirit. Thank You that You love us so much, it is beyond our understanding. As we meditate on this verse today, help us to grasp how much You love us. Wherever we are on our journey with You, help us to go a little deeper today. Draw us close and, in the words of Paul, help us to know the love that surpasses all knowledge. Amen.
