Who is This King of Glory?
Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. Psalm 24:8
The psalmist doesn’t leave us wondering. He gives us the question and the answer in the same breath: “Who is this King of Glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.”
This isn’t just repetition, it is a declaration, a cry from the soul, a moment of holy awe. When we open our hearts to welcome the King, the natural response is reverent wonder: Who is this King we’ve just let in? What kind of King enters not with armies, but with wounds? Not with domination, but with deliverance? This verse reminds us that our King is not only glorious in majesty, but He is also mighty in battle.
Picture Jesus as He walks toward the cross. Every step is a declaration of war against darkness.
When He heals the sick, it’s a strike against suffering.
When He forgives sinners, it’s a strike against condemnation.
When He refuses to save Himself to save us, it’s a fatal blow to pride and self-preservation.
He fights the ones we could never win. He wages war against sin, shame, fear, death, and the devil himself. And He doesn’t do it from a throne in heaven alone, He enters into the battlefield of our broken world, right alongside us. The cross is not a symbol of defeat, it is His weapon of war.
When you feel surrounded by fear, remember He is mighty in battle.
When you feel lost in shame, remember He is mighty in battle.
When you are weary from temptation, remember He is mighty in battle.
When you feel like giving up, remember that the King of Glory has never lost a fight.
So today, ask the question the psalmist asks – “Who is this King of Glory?”
And let your soul answer:
He is Jesus, the Lord strong and mighty. The One who fights for me. The One who has already won. Hallelujah!
Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, You are the King of Glory strong and mighty, victorious in battle. Thank You for fighting the battles I never could. Thank You for defeating the enemies I could never overcome on my own. You faced sin and didn’t flinch. You faced death and broke its grip. You faced my shame and covered it in grace. When I am weak, remind me that You are not. When I feel surrounded, remind me that You go before me. When I forget who I belong to, remind me of Your scars, the signs of the war You won for me. Today, I lift my eyes to You, King Jesus. You are strong, mighty, and undefeated. I trust You with my battles, and I rest in Your victory. Come reign in me. Fight for me. Be glorified in my life. Amen.
