Where Is Your Anchor Lodged?
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:19
Today’s verse says hope is the anchor for the soul? So where is your anchor lodged? On Sunday Dr. Harris asked the question – where is your anchor? Where is your hope? Where is your strength? Security? If it is in anything other than God then you’ve placed it in the wrong place. If your anchor is not set in a solid foundation, how can it hold onto you when it’s tested?
An anchor is used to keep you from being blown about by the wind, or swept by the tide into destruction; out to sea or on the rocks. This means the anchor by itself, isn’t good enough to keep the boat safe. The other end of the anchor has to be firmly attached in order to keep to your soul, your Christian life.
Do not chuck your anchor! Where’s your anchor? Has it been thrown overboard because of the storm you’re in, and you’re being buffeted this way and that, and feeling hope-less? Should you be surprised at that if you’ve lost your hold on the very thing God designed to hold you safe? Then cry out to the Lord and grab hold of it again. God never fails you. He has kept many saints throughout the storms of life, and He is certain to remain His hold on you. It won’t fail you, this day, this night, this week or at any time.
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love
