When Nothing Else Could Help
I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1
Reflecting on the hymn ‘Love Lifted Me’ I am sure we can all identify with the moments in life where we find ourselves “far from the peaceful shore” tossed about by the waves of our own choices or the storms life throws at us. Not just struggling, but overwhelmed, weighed down by guilt, grief, regret, or shame. But then comes the line that changes everything: “But the Master of the sea heard my despairing cry.”
God doesn’t ignore the cries that come from the depths. He hears. He sees. And He reaches. Not because we deserve it. Not because we’ve earned a rescue. But because He is love — and His love doesn’t hesitate to dive deep when His children are drowning.
No matter how deep you’ve fallen, God’s love reaches deeper.
You may think you’ve gone too far, made too many mistakes, or wandered beyond the point of return. But the truth is: there’s no pit so deep that God’s love can’t find you there. When no one else could help, when you couldn’t even help yourself, God’s love lifted you.
And here’s the most beautiful part: He’s not waiting for you to swim back to Him. He’s already reaching for you. He’s already beside you. Like the father in the story of the prodigal son, He’s watching the road, ready to run toward you the moment you turn His way.
God’s love is not a last resort, it is a lifeline!
Prayer for today: Father, thank You for loving me at my lowest. Thank You for lifting me when I couldn’t lift myself. Remind me today that Your love is always reaching for me — even when I feel unworthy. Help me to respond to that love with trust, with surrender, and with gratitude. I return to You today, knowing that in Your arms, I am safe. Amen.
