When God Is For You
For I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present nor the future. Romans 8:38
According to Wikipedia, the Atlantic hurricane season is the period in a year from June through November when hurricanes usually form in the Atlantic Ocean. Fires, hurricanes and accidents are happening all around us – none of us can be totally insulated from the possibility of something happening to us. Many of us are worry. We worry about our health, our wealth and what the future holds. Yet the Bible constantly encourages us not to worry. Today we read one of its great promises – “If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”
Some believe that it is arrogance for the believer to walk as if they are ‘eternally secure.’ “Surely you cannot expect to be saved if you sin!” Yet the reason we are secure is not because we are performing to some standard, but because Christ, our great High Priest, lives for ever and is constantly interceding on our behalf. The word ‘intercession’ means to ‘appeal and petition.’ As we can see from the context of Romans 8:38, the writer here is referring to the role of the Father. Paul asks us, “Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?” In other words, if God was willing to give you the very best when you were the very worst, won’t He now give you the very least since you mean to Him the very most?
In our weakest moments, God the Spirit is praying for us. When we don’t know what to do or how to pray, He is taking our needs and prayers and presenting them to the Father in a way that is in perfect harmony with God’s will.
