What to say
I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1
In Psalm 34 David begins by stressing the importance of worshiping the Lord. Though it might seem strange to worship God during times of trouble, this is the best time to speak of His goodness. It actually is very beneficial. Paul shares this same principle in a part of his teaching on prayer. We read in Philippians 4:6 ‘Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God’. Why should we do this, well the answer is found in verse 7 ‘and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus’.
You see, thanksgiving and praise is so important during our times of trouble because it reminds us of how great our God is. Sometimes our problems can seem so large that we are tempted to lose all hope. During such a time we may think, ‘How will I ever overcome the enormity of this problem?’ The truth is, often we can’t. Yet nothing is bigger or more powerful than God.
During this season of hope, if you find yourself struggling with worry, then perhaps you need to spend some quiet time focusing upon God. Consider meditating on today’s verse and allow God’s peace to come over your soul.
