What is prayer?
For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. Isaiah 55:8
If someone was to ask you, ‘What exactly is prayer? Have you considered what your answer would be? For me, I know that prayer is aligning our will to His or seeking His purpose for our lives. Jeremiah 33:3 says “Call to me and I will answer you”, says the Lord. The surrender of our will to God can be difficult and painful, but the outcome can be glorious. More that we can ever imagine.
In this life there will be times of pain and desperation; times of uncertainty and doubt; times of weakness and confusion. In the end it has to be God’s way. Without questioning, without even understanding and with complete trust.
And there’s the key to prayer: ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths’ (Proverbs 3:5-6). It has to be based on trust, and faith.
Sometimes we have to make a choice. God’s way or our way? Let us take a page from Jesus as He prayed to the Father, “not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42).
As we are obedient to God and live according to His principles, we are in alignment with Him and more able to discern His will. ’The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective’ (James 5:16).
Prayer for today: Father, today I pray not my will but Your will be done. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Lord, in Your Kingdom, You reign sovereign and supreme. Help me to walk in Your ways here and now, so that I may taste and see that Your plans for me are good. I choose to submit to You in all things. Please help me, Lord, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
