Verbal Acts of Worship
Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of all His wondrous works! Psalm 105:2
Psalm 105:1-2 express the verbal acts of worship: give thanks, call on His name, proclaim, sing, and tell. The redeemed should say so! They should make known the glory of God in personal praise, corporate praise, and in global witness. When we think of worship and praising God, this is often one of the first things that comes to mind: we sing to Him. And rightly so! When God puts a song on our heart, it must be sung! Notice here that the song is sung to God. As a lover would sing his song of praise to his sweetheart, so also do we sing our love song to God, the One we love. To God, we should sing our praises!
We are called to exalt Him. We are called to sing of how great our God is. We are called to give Him what is due – total worship.
King David continually spoke about the goodness of the Lord in Psalm 71. He says; ‘My praise is continual’, ‘my mouth is filled’, ‘my words will tell’, ‘I will praise’, ‘I still proclaim’, ‘I will sing’, ‘my lips will shout and my tongue will talk’. The Psalmist just can’t keep quiet about the Lord.
Have you noticed how your own spirit responds when you make the choice to use your voice to praise God? Singing makes us happy. It evokes a feeling of satisfaction and goodness. Singing conjures up good memories and happy thoughts. I once read an article, not focused on praising God, which advocated the benefits of singing out loud. Apparently it makes us happy. My guess is that this is so because God hard-wired us this way. How much better yet when we sing praises back to Him!
Why not sing praises now? Join me – I Will Praise You Lord
I will praise you Lord
With every breath that I take,
I will praise you Lord
This promise I make
And should eternity end and starts all over again
Even then I will praise you Lord
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, I praise Your name. You truly are a wonderful God and You’re so good to us all! Thank You for saving me, for fathering me and for loving me. I bless Your holy name! Irrespective of my circumstances, would You please fill my heart with songs of praise today. Amen.
