Tracking the Hand of God
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I do hope. Psalm 130:5
“Hurry up God!” If you’re like me, then you’ve secretly prayed for this phrase before. I have to confess, some years ago I did not understand what God was doing in my life and not being interested in the lesson God was teaching me, I secretly wished the season away. It was a very lonely place of waiting. And my spirit was fading. It wasn’t until in that season I also wished away time spent with loved ones did I realize the bigger picture and felt ashamed that I was wishing time would pass. My natural disposition was to try and make things happen, but God was having to teach me a very deep lesson – that His clocks keep perfect time. Like the psalmist, my whole being was waiting – I was desperate for the dawn to break on the day I was so sure He had told me about.
The time of waiting proved to be profound years of preparation. God had to do a lot of work in my life to equip me for the work that lay ahead. They were also years of testing as to whether or not I would continue to trust God for the vision, even though it seemed as though God had forgotten.
Today, if you find yourself in a season of waiting. Do not wish away the time. Take some time to jot down the things you are struggling with and use that journal as a testimony for the goodness of God.
There were so many things I learned during those years of waiting that I can look back now with great thanksgiving for the critical lessons I had to learn. I didn’t see it in the moment because I was blinded by my plans and not what God had in store for me. God really does know what He’s doing! So next time you are tempted to try and hurry God up, remember that His clocks do keep perfect time and the dawn will come.
Prayer for today: Dear Lord thank You, that You don’t forget Your promises to Your children. Each of us is in the palm of Your hand as we await for Your perfect timing and the fulfillment of Your plans Teach me patience and give me a willing heart to learn whatever lessons You want to teach me along the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
