The Weight of Injustice
For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire; he blesses the greedy and renounces the Lord. Psalm 10:4
Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the brokenness in our world? You’re not alone. The psalmist in Psalm 10 felt the same. He looked around and saw proud, arrogant people who lived as if God didn’t exist, “God is in none of his thoughts.” These people oppressed the vulnerable, exploited the weak, and acted as though they would never be held accountable.
It’s the age-old question: Why do the wicked seem to win while the righteous suffer?
The truth is sobering yet filled with hope: we live in a world where bad things happen because of God’s great mercy. His judgment waits, giving space for people to repent and turn to Him. That means we live in the tension of a merciful God who delays justice, not because He ignores evil, but because He longs to save.
Yes, this mercy results in a messy world. But it also means that God’s heart is still pursuing the lost, still extending grace, even to those we think deserve wrath. His delay is not neglect, it’s mercy.
Still, God gives us permission to grieve what we see. Psalm 10 invites us to name injustice, to cry out over it, and to trust that God will not stay silent forever. He sees. He remembers. And one day, He will act with perfect justice.
Prayer for today: Merciful and just God, You see what we see and more. Our hearts ache over injustice, cruelty, and pride. Help us not to grow numb or bitter, but to bring our burdened hearts to You. Thank You for being patient with a broken world, for giving more time for repentance. Help us trust that Your justice will come in Your perfect timing. Amen.
