The Triumphal Entry
The next day, the news that Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem swept through the city. A large crowd of Passover visitors took palm branches and went down the road to meet him. They shouted, “Praise God!
Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hail to the King of Israel!” John 12:12, 13
Hosanna! Meaning ‘please save us’. These are the words echoed throughout Jerusalem on Palm Sunday as Jesus entered. On Palm Sunday we remember Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey and the people there waving palm branches and shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” In our current world situation, many of us are burdened by fear and worry of the unknowns. Due to COVID-19 we are burdened by the quarantine we are under feeling closed in or isolated and so we still cry ‘Hosanna’.
Jesus riding on the donkey showed the humble nature of His incarnation. He did not come into this world to rule over an earthly kingdom. Remembering that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey helps us remember that He takes our burdens from us. Lay your burden at His feet. Release your cares into His hands and allow His peace to guard your heart.
