The Temptation of Horses
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7
It’s natural for us to think in the flesh, ‘I got this’. The temptation to rely on “horses” our own efforts, abilities, resources, and strategies comes easily. There’s a natural inclination to gather all the right tools, to surround ourselves with knowledge, to attend conferences, go to the gym 5 days a week, read the latest books, and chase after the strategies that seem to promise success. While these things aren’t inherently bad, especially going to the gym ☺️ when they become the foundation of our trust, we lose sight of God.
What would it look like to choose trust over self-sufficiency, to rest in God’s strength instead of our own?
What if we spent less time looking for the “next big thing” and more time simply remembering the name of the Lord our God? Fewer books, fewer conferences, fewer strategies, and more focus on seeking God’s direction and trusting His timing. Not because knowledge or wisdom is wrong, but because they should always point us back to the One who holds it all.
Prayer for today: Lord, teach me to do my part without relying on my own strength, and remind me that it’s You who gives the increase. Help me to recognize when I’m relying on my own “horses” and to choose, instead, to lean on You. May I always remember that You are the source of my success, and that without You, I can do nothing.
