The Sin of Forgetting Grace
We love each other because he loved us first. 1 John 4:19
One of the greatest obstacles in our relationships with others is forgetting how much grace we’ve been given. Often when offended or wronged, our first response is to cut the individual off, however if God were to treat us that way then where would we be? It’s so easy to forget our own desperate need for grace, and even easier to forget the incredible grace God has freely given us. When we forget that grace, it’s natural to respond to others without grace harshly, critically, or impatiently.
God’s grace toward us isn’t something we earned, achieved, or deserve. It’s a gift lavished on us, despite our flaws and failures. Yet, in the busyness of life, we often forget the depth of that gift and can become impatient or unforgiving toward others.
Remembering the grace we’ve received should change how we treat those around us. When we reflect on how deeply we needed grace and how freely it was given to us, we’re reminded that this grace is not just for us, but to be shared with others.
Today I invite you to join me in prayer and reflection….have I forgotten the grace God has shown me? How can I be more intentional in remembering it today? Are there areas in my relationships where I’ve responded without grace?
Prayer for today: Lord, help me remember the grace You’ve freely given me. May I never forget how much I’ve been forgiven. Teach me to respond to others with the same grace You show me every day. Amen.
