The Second Flip
The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord. Proverbs 16:33
Alistair Begg writes a story and tells the reader there is no ideal place to serve God except the place in which He has set you down. God eventually set Joseph down in Egypt, in the house of Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard. Under Potiphar leadership Joseph was a steward, a manager of Potiphar’s estates. We are told that the God’s hand was with Joseph and he became a successful man. God caused everything to be fruitful in Joseph’s hands. But, Joseph does not live a life that is happily ever after. In fact, things begin to crumble once again. We are told that Joseph is a very handsome man (Genesis 39:7). Potiphar’s wife attempts to seduce him and although he refuses to agree to her suggestion, he is falsely accused, brought before Potiphar and winds up in prison as a result of the accusation. Talk about a mess!
Even with the roll of the dice from Potiphar’s wife, Joseph still found favor while in prison. In prison, we see again that God was with Joseph, showing him steadfast love and favor with the keeper of the prison who put him in charge of all of the prisoners. Genesis 39:23 tells us “The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper.”
Did you see that? Joseph, a prisoner, was placed in charge. The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph’s charge because God was with him. What a promise! Joseph brothers threw the dice and prayed it landed on death but, because God was in control it landed on life. Now Potiphar’s wife threw the dice hoping it would land on suffering but, God says it lands on favor. When God is with you, there is no harm that comes to destroy you. Yes, life may get dry but even in those moments remember God still has a plan and a purpose.
