The Power of Continual Praise
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1Thessalonians 5:16-18
Giving praise to the Lord is one of the most profound ways to express our thanks to God for His blessings. And what blessings, you may ask? Even something as simple as waking up this morning, being able to read these words, or opening your email is reason enough to give God praise. Every moment of life itself is a gift worthy of thanksgiving.
Our monthly verse reminds us to “offer the sacrifice of praise continually.” Continual praise does not mean praising God only on special occasions, once a day, or even once a week. Continual implies an ongoing, unbroken devotion of the heart to a life lived in awareness of God’s goodness. David exemplified this as he declared, “His praise shall continually be in my mouth” and even at midnight, he rose to give thanks for God’s righteous judgments.
Praising God is not passive. It is an active response to His goodness. The Bible provides us many ways to praise, reminding us that worship is meant to involve our whole being body, mind, and spirit:
Shout for joy (Psalm 32:11)
Clap your hands (Psalm 47:1)
Sing (Psalm 47:6)
Make a loud noise (Psalm 98:4)
Lift up your hands (Psalm 134:2)
With the sound of the trumpet (Psalm 150:3)
Upon the loud cymbals (Psalm 150:5)
Make a joyful noise (Psalm 98:4)
Rejoice (Psalm 98:4)
With harp (Psalm 33:2)
Each expression of praise is a tangible act of devotion. From the music that lifts our spirits to the simple words of thanksgiving we speak throughout the day, praise becomes a constant offering to God a living sacrifice of our hearts.
Take a moment right now to actively praise God. Say it aloud, sing a line of a hymn, lift your hands, or silently recount His blessings. Praise has the power to shift our perspective, open our hearts to God’s presence, and bring peace to our souls.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of life, breath, and the blessings You pour into my day. Teach me to offer You continual praise, not only with my words but with my heart, my actions, and my spirit. Help me to see the goodness around me and respond with thanksgiving, rejoicing in Your name at all times. May my life be a living sacrifice of praise that honors You in every season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
