The Impossible Meal
Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” Matthew 14:16
Feeding the multitude, 5,000 people, with only five loaves of bread and two fish seems like an impossible task. Yet this is exactly what Jesus did. What started off as an impossible situation soon became possible when it was brought to the right person Jesus. It`s hard for us to truly understand how the disciples must have felt, when they looked out at the huge crowd. The disciples were worried. They were not seeing the situation with their spiritual eyes. They did not consider the miracles performed right before their eyes. Instead with those same eyes all the disciples saw 5,000 people and became hopeless. However, they had the words of Jesus to empower them when He said `You feed them! ` From both a physical and practical point of view it was totally impossible – Jesus was well aware of this. He wanted to show the disciples more of who His Father really was. He is a God who delivers.
Jesus on the other hand was not fazed by the crowd. He did not see as the disciples saw. Jesus instead, looked at the situation from God`s point of view, where nothing is impossible, and simply took the loaves and the fish, looked toward heaven and gave thanks. He prayed and asked God`s blessing on what they did have. The rest was up to His Father. It was, without question, a dramatic miracle – and a giant learning curve for the disciples. Trust in God and in doing so give thanks.
Today regardless of what your 5,000 situation may look like. Present it before God and give thanks. Today, you may not have enough provision. You may be a long, long way short. But, having done your part, take what you do have, look toward heaven and ask God`s blessing on it. He`s the One who will bring the increase and cause the miracle. Remember, we serve a God who sits in the land of possibilities. He loves to prove that He is who He says He is!
