The Goodness of God

For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

I just about tear up every time I sing the song by CeCe Winans titled ‘The Goodness of God’. The first verse to this song goes like this:

I love You, Lord.

For Your mercy never fails me

All my days, I’ve been held in Your hands.

There isn’t a day I can point to and say that God has ever failed me. No, God has and always is good. The psalmist’s declaration in Psalm 100:5 stands as an anchor of this assurance: “For the Lord is good.” These four simple words carry profound significance, revealing an unchanging truth about the nature of our God.

“The Lord is good.” It’s a statement that echoes through the corridors of time, reaching us in our present moments. God’s goodness isn’t just a historical account or a distant promise; it is a present reality. In every breath, in each heartbeat, in the rising and setting of the sun, the goodness of the Lord surrounds us.

God’s goodness isn’t based on our merit or performance; it flows from the very essence of who He is. It’s a goodness that surpasses human comprehension, a goodness that extends beyond our understanding of fairness or justice. It is a goodness that follows us in sickness and in health; whether we are rich or poor; on the mountain top or even in the valley low.

His love, an outpouring of His goodness, endures forever.

And His faithfulness? It’s not subject to the limitations of time or circumstance. “His faithfulness continues through all generations.” The faithfulness that guided Abraham, sustained David, and comforted Paul is the same faithfulness available to us today. It’s a thread that weaves through time, connecting each generation to the enduring promises of God. As you meditate on these words, let them resonate in your spirit.

The Lord is good, His love endures forever, and His faithfulness extends to you. In every season of life, whether in moments of triumph or challenges, rest in the assurance of God’s unchanging goodness. His love surrounds you, and His faithfulness remains a steady anchor through all generations.

Prayer for today: Lord, with a heart that overflows with joy I praise Your name! You continue to be a firm foundation that we can stand on during the test of times, You Lord have never failed me. May my life be a living testimony to Your goodness, O Lord. In my words, my actions, and my interactions with others, may Your goodness be evident. Use me as an instrument of Your grace to share the boundless love that flows from Your goodness. Amen
