The Apple of God’s Eye
Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings. Psalm 17:8
David asks God to keep him as the “apple of His eye”— a term that signifies being highly valued and protected. He also prays for shelter under God’s wings, a symbol of God’s care and refuge. In moments of danger or distress, this image of being hidden under God’s wings is a powerful reminder of His tender care and protection.
God promises to guard those who are His own, especially when they are vulnerable. Just as a mother bird shields her young under her wings, God provides a place of safety for us when we feel surrounded by the enemy or overwhelmed by life’s circumstances. It’s in these moments of feeling exposed that God’s protection becomes most evident.
We may face seasons of trial, misunderstanding, and even false accusations. But when we seek God’s presence and align our hearts with His, we can trust that He will ultimately make things right.
Are you allowing yourself to find refuge in God’s care, or are you trying to handle your problems alone?
Prayer for today: Lord, I ask that You keep me as the apple of Your eye. Shelter me under the shadow of Your wings, protecting me from harm. Help me to rest in the security of Your love and trust that You are my safe place. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
