The Abiding Benefits
Now it was told King David, saying, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness. 2 Samuel 6:12
There is a difference between occasionally visiting God’s presence and choosing to abide in it. Jesus reminds us in John 15, “Abide in Me, and I in you.” Here we see that abiding is remaining, dwelling, and staying continually connected to Him. It is through this ongoing relationship that we receive strength, peace, wisdom, and spiritual fruitfulness.
Obed-Edom experienced the benefits of abiding in God’s presence. The blessing on his household was not because of wealth, status, or human ability, but because the presence of God rested there. When we remain connected to the Lord, His presence changes the atmosphere of our lives. Fear gives way to peace! Weariness is replaced with strength! Confusion is met with wisdom! Dry places begin to flourish again! Now that’s the difference the presence of the Lord makes.
Prayer for today: Father, teach me to abide in You daily. Help me to remain connected to Your heart and to depend on You in every season. Thank You for the peace, strength, and joy that come from living in Your presence. Let my life bear fruit as I stay rooted in You. Amen.
