Thanksgiving Wednesday
O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 106:1
Psalm 106:1 says, “O, give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good…” Emphasis on the “He” is good. Not that we are good or our situations are good or our friends are good. No, God is good and this is why we ought to give thanks. Sometimes, worship and thanksgiving can be a sacrifice. That may be because we are down, depressed, or things are not comfortable for us. Perhaps hardship or tragedy has struck our lives in some way and we do not want to thank God. Yet, the Bible urges us to give thanks to the Lord.
We also see this in Hebrews 13:15, “Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.” Did you see that? We are not told to give thanks to the Lord because we feel good. We are to give thanks to the Lord because He is good.
Be encouraged this morning as you let thanksgiving be the tone of your speech. We are quick to ask for help, but we are slow in giving thanks. As we approach God to ask for new blessings, we should never forget to offer thanks for the blessings He has already given.
Prayer for today: Dear God, in this season of Thanksgiving help me to shift my focus and allow me to thank You for the many blessings you give, both big and small. Thank You for inviting me to the table. Help me to do the same for another. Amen.
