Surely, God

Surely, God
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23:6
In this life, there are many things we think we can count on. We’re sure the sun will rise tomorrow, but we’re not sure if we’ll live to see it. We’re sure the chair will hold us when we sit, but we’re not sure we won’t still fall and feel pain. You see, we walk through life holding both the known and the unknown certainty and uncertainty. That tension is part of being human. But when it comes to God, there is no such tension. Psalm 23:6 says,
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” That surely is a declaration of trust not in ourselves, but in our Shepherd.
Today I want to remind you that with God there is no doubt. There is no risk of failure. There is no “maybe” in His promises. This is not the definition of surely. There is no unpredictability in His character. In Him, we find our solid ground, our steady footing, our unshakable “surely.” This we know:
Surely, He has our back.
Surely, we will get through this.
Surely, we can overcome.
Surely, this is not the end.
Today consider the uncertainties you facing right now? Can you name one area where you need to replace doubt with a “surely” rooted in God’s character? Write them down one by one, and next to each one also write ‘surely God is able’. Even when we’re not sure what tomorrow holds, we are sure of Who holds tomorrow. Even when we don’t understand the why, we can still cling to the Who.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being a sure thing in a world full of uncertainties. In You, I am confident that I will make it through not because of anything I’ve done, but all because of You. Help me to trust in Your goodness, Your mercy, and Your promises. When doubts creep in, remind me of Your unchanging character. You are my Shepherd, and in You, I lack nothing. Surely, You are with me. Amen.
