Still Can’t Touch You
Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. Psalm 91:7
Do we have the courage to trust God’s Word enough to believe that He means this literally when He says ‘these evils will not touch you’? The King James Version puts it this way ‘A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.’ Nothing catches God by surprise. He’s God. He knew there would be times when there would be so many negative, scary reports that would lead to feelings of fear. He knows the danger around us and how we might feel so overwhelmed. That’s why He warned us in Psalm 91. However we, as believers, have an important choice to make. Either we run to Him and seek shelter, or we can get caught up in all the worry, anxiety, and fear and let it consume us.
Psalm 91 is the proactive chapter. It’s a preventive measure that God has given to His children against every evil known to mankind. No place else in the Word are all the protection promises accumulated in one covenant to offer such a total package for living in this world. For this reason, it is vital to our journey here on earth to meditate on this chapter as often as we can.
Many see Psalm 91 as a beautiful promise that they file with all their other good reading material and it makes them feel comforted when they read it. I do not want anyone to read this and fail to see the significance of these promises. These are not written for our inspiration, but for our protection. These are God’s words of deliverance from affliction.
Psalm 91 is God’s protection promise given to His children against every evil.
