Stay Alert
Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. Colossians 4:2
Deep down we desperately desire to connect with our Creator. And He wants to connect with us. Figuring out how to do that seems difficult, though. After all, God is God. He’s huge and mysterious and greater than us. He’s everywhere, yet He’s invisible. Thankfully we aren’t left to figure this out alone. God’s word gives us guidance on how we should come to the Father. The answer can be found in today’s verse which says, “Devote yourself to prayer.”
Prayer is not a small thing. It is not marginal. It is not an incidental thing in the believer’s life. Prayer is your lifeline, which is why we are encouraged to remain alter through prayer. Colossians 4:2 in the Message version of the Bible reads “Pray diligently. Stay alert, with your eyes wide open in gratitude.” Prayer, thankful prayer is our direct connection to God.
We cannot get deep with God on the run, fitting him into the cracks of your day. But you can enjoy continual fellowship with God on the run if you have gone deep with God in the quiet moments of prayer prior to your run. So, make it your aim. Continuous prayer with God. You will go deep with Him in the moments of quiet focused prayer, and this depth will make God more real to you than ever before.
