Someone Who Can Help
I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies. Psalm 17:3
When we find ourselves in the midst of trouble, the instinct to call out for help is natural. But there’s a key part of this verse that’s worth noting: we don’t just call on anyone, we call on someone who can help. In times of distress, we don’t waste our words or our energy on someone who is unable to act. When a crisis arises, we reach out to those we know have the power, ability, and willingness to respond.
David, in this verse, calls on the Lord, not just because He is a compassionate God, but because He is also a powerful God—worthy of our trust and praise. We call on the Lord because we know He is capable of doing what no one else can do. He is not distant, unengaged, or powerless. He is the One who actively saves us, delivers us, and fights on our behalf.
Think about it: when you’re in a difficult place, whether emotionally, spiritually, or physically—you wouldn’t call someone who cannot help. You wouldn’t reach out to a person who lacks the ability to lift you up or guide you through the storm. You’d only call on someone you know can come through for you. And this is exactly why we call on God. We know that He is the One who has the power to save us.
Prayer for today: Lord, thank You for being a God who hears my call in times of trouble. You are worthy of all my praise because You are not only able to save, but You do save. I trust in Your power to deliver me from whatever comes against me. Help me to always remember that You are the One who can lift me up when I fall, who can fight on my behalf when I am weak, and who can give me peace when I face the storm. I call on You, Lord, knowing You will answer, knowing You will save. Amen.
