We may throw the dice, but the Lord determines how they fall. Proverbs 16:33
If you are rushing through life, hurrying to get to the next season you’ll likely miss it. You wont see how God, despite the circumstances, set you up to where you are today. Just think about it, stop and look back. See what God has done for you. This must have been how Joseph felt as he penned these words “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” – Genesis 50:20
Notice how he so perfectly worked in the details to get you through and bring you here. And “here”, well this isn’t it.
God didn’t just allow Joseph’s brother to sell him into slavery. Oh yes, that was part of it, but not all of it. God’s plans are bigger and better than we could ever dream. The story of Joseph is a profound testament to the providence of God—a divine orchestration of events in a person’s life to fulfill His sovereign purposes. Joseph’s journey from a pit to a palace is a vivid example of how God can turn what was meant for harm into a beautiful tapestry of His divine plan.
In Egypt, Joseph served as a slave in Potiphar’s house and then was unjustly imprisoned after being falsely accused. Throughout these trials, Joseph never lost his faith in God. He remained faithful and diligent in all he did. God was with Joseph and blessed everything he touched.
Joseph’s story is a testament to God’s providential hand working through difficult circumstances. Even in the darkest moments of his life, Joseph clung to his faith in God’s goodness. His unwavering trust in God’s plan allowed him to interpret dreams, which ultimately led him to be elevated to second-in-command over all of Egypt.
God used Joseph’s position to save Egypt and surrounding nations from a devastating famine, including his own family, the very ones who in the flesh started the series of unfortunate events. Yet, Joseph’s response is a poignant declaration of God’s providence: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.“
In our lives, we may encounter situations that seem like insurmountable obstacles or deliberate acts of malice. However, Joseph’s story reminds us that God can use even the darkest moments for our good and His glory. His providence is at work, weaving together every thread of our lives into a beautiful tapestry of His divine plan.
Just as Joseph remained faithful, let us also trust in God’s providence during our trials and tribulations. Our challenges may be part of God’s greater purpose. As we seek His guidance and remain steadfast in our faith, we can rest assured that He is working all things together for our good and the fulfillment of His perfect plan.
