Sharing Resources – Breaking Bread
So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:46-47
In Acts 2:46-47, we see the early believers engaged in a simple yet profound practice: breaking bread from house to house. This act of sharing meals was not just about physical nourishment but also about building and strengthening community. In doing so, they experienced the power of sharing. Breaking bread together is a powerful expression of unity and fellowship. It goes beyond merely eating; it involves sharing our resources, our time, and our lives with one another. It involves being our brothers and sisters keeper, a shoulder to lean on, a listening ear, or a hand of encouragement. In a world where individualism often prevails, the act of sharing a meal can be a radical testament to our faith. By opening our homes and our hearts to others, we mirror the generosity of Christ, who gave Himself for us.
Sharing resources and breaking bread together is a practical way to reflect Christ’s love to others. Jesus often used meals as opportunities to teach, heal, and build relationships. When we share what we have—whether it be food, time, or talents—we create a welcoming community where everyone feels valued and loved. This hospitality can be a powerful witness to those around us, showing them the love of Christ in tangible ways. Following His example, we can use our shared meals to minister to one another, encourage each other, and invite others into the fellowship of believers.
Challenge for today: Consider how you can incorporate the practice of breaking bread into your daily life. Are there opportunities to share meals and resources with others? How can you use these times to build and strengthen those around you?
Prayer for today: Lord, we thank You for the example of the early church in sharing their resources and breaking bread together. Forgive us for the times in which we’ve been self-consumed and selfish with the resources you’ve given to us. Help us to cultivate a spirit of generosity and hospitality in our own lives. Teach us to value and nurture our relationships, sharing what we have with gladness and simplicity of heart. May our communities be a reflection of Your love and grace, drawing others to You. Amen.
