Series of Unfortunate Events
We may throw the dice, but the Lord determines how they fall. Proverbs 16:33
This week we went on a journey through two stories filled with a series of unfortunate events, yet still we saw God had the final say. It may appear that we’re simply drawing straws or making a choice by chance, but every outcome, every decision, is ultimately orchestrated by the Lord.
Understanding this concept can provide us with a profound sense of peace. It means that, even when life seems uncertain or chaotic, we can trust that God is in control. Nothing is left to fate, luck, or mere chance. He is the ultimate authority over all things, and His purposes will ultimately prevail.
In 1911, a song was published in the hymnal “Select Hymns for Christian Worship.” It’s a familiar song that goes, “Tempted and tried, we’re often made to wonder why it should be this way all day long. While there are others living around us, never molested, though they are in the wrong.
Refrain: Farther along, we’ll know more about it. Farther along, we’ll understand why. So cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine. We’ll understand it all by and by.
So, the next time you face a situation where the outcome seems uncertain, remember Proverbs 16:33. This verse encourages us to approach decision-making with prayer and a heart attuned to God’s guidance. Seek God first and allow Him to take charge in your life. While we may cast lots or make choices, our trust should always rest in Him. Seek His wisdom, and trust that He will direct your steps.
Believing in the providence of God, we are preserved from the pitfalls of bitterness and resentment where Satan seeks to have us fall. The burden you bear today, the sorrow you carry, all things come not by chance, but by the hand of God.
Rest assured that God is in control, and every decision, no matter how seemingly random, is ultimately part of His divine plan. Embrace the peace that comes from knowing the Lord is the ultimate author of your story.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father I thank You for the way in which You spoke to us Your children this week. I pray that we will not be afraid of the future, we wont be anxious about trials, and we wont curse our seasons of life. Instead, we will trust in You always. Knowing that You are always for us and in the end work everything out for our good, according to Your purpose. Amen
