Samson – From Strength to Surrender
Then Samson prayed to the LORD, “Sovereign LORD, remember me again. O God, please strengthen me just one more time. With one blow let me pay back the Philistines for the loss of my two eyes.” – Judges 16:28, NLT
Samson was undoubtedly a man anointed with unusual strength and might. However, Samson’s failure to rule over his lust for women depleted his anointing and turned him to a grinder in the prison and to an entertainer before his enemies. Anyone who fails to control his emotions or passions in life can easily fall into temptations and become a prey for the devil.
Samson was gifted with supernatural strength. But he lacked discipline. He was impulsive and prideful, but like so many others written in the Scriptures Samson’s story doesn’t end there.
Samson misused his gift and ignored boundaries. Delilah exposed his secret, and Samson lost his strength, his freedom, and his sight. But in prison blind and broken his hair began to grow again. And so did his dependence on God.
In his final prayer, Samson cried out for strength one more time. God answered. His last act fulfilled his calling to defeat Israel’s enemies. Even in the consequences, God can restore purpose.
Your failure is not greater than God’s mercy.
Prayer for today: Lord, You have placed gifts inside of me. Forgive me for the times I have misused them or taken them for granted. When pride creeps in, humble me. When temptation calls, strengthen me. When consequences come, remind me that restoration is still possible. Even in broken seasons, let my purpose grow again. Teach me that true strength is found in surrender, not self-reliance. Restore what has been lost. Renew what has been weakened. And use my life for Your glory once more. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
