Rest in the Shepherd’s Care
He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. Psalm 23:2
One reason we resist rest is fear, fear that if we stop, things will fall apart. But rest is an act of faith. It’s declaring: “God, I trust You to provide even when I’m not working.”
We often rest best when we feel safe. Sheep can only lie down when the shepherd is near, watching over them. In the same way, our Good Shepherd watches over us so we can truly rest without fear. We saw this kind of care in the Old Testament when the Israelites learned this when God gave them manna in the wilderness and told them not to gather on the Sabbath. Their rest was a sign of trust in His provision.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19
Rest is not wasted time; it’s an investment. Just as sleep restores the body, spiritual rest restores our soul. When we wait on the Lord, He fills us with new strength to face what’s ahead.
Rest is not just physical; it’s peace of heart and mind, knowing that God is guarding, guiding, and carrying us. Rest allows us to rise again stronger than before, soaring above life’s challenges instead of being dragged down by them.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” – Isaiah 40:31
Prayer for today: Lord, thank You that You are my Provider. Help me to rest, knowing that You will supply all my needs. Father I release my fears and trust Your protection. Remind me that with You as my Shepherd, I lack nothing. Thank You that in You my strength is renewed. Teach me to rest in Your promises so that I may soar like an eagle. Amen
