Rest From Striving
There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works. Hebrews 4:9-10
Many of us began January with striving, planning, pushing, fixing, and trying to get everything right. While preparation has its place, God invites us into a different rhythm. His rest is not passive or lazy; it is a posture of trust. It means releasing the pressure to prove ourselves and resting in who He already says we are.
God’s rest reminds us that we are not defined by productivity, success, or perfection. We are defined by our relationship with Him. When we enter His rest, we step out of the exhausting cycle of self-reliance and into the freedom of depending on His strength.
True Sabbath-rest quiets the soul. It allows us to work from peace rather than pressure, from faith rather than fear. As we trust God more deeply, striving gives way to grace.
Prayer for today: Father, quiet the striving in my soul. Help me release the need to prove myself and teach me the beauty of living from Your strength instead of my own. Lead me into Your rest today. Amen.
