Rest from Heavy Burdens
He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. Psalm 23:2
Life can weigh us down with pressures, expectations, and endless to-do lists. But Jesus gives us an invitation: Come to Me. Rest is not found in getting everything done, but in coming to Him.
When we go to God, He offers us lasting peace.
God gives us the kind of peace that cannot be taken away. Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” He invites us to drink deeply of His word, spending time with Him to learn from and trust Him. And the more we do that, the more our eyes will be open to appreciate what King David mean when he said “He makes me to lie down in green pastures”
Our earthly rest points to a greater promise eternal rest in the presence of God. The rest we experience here is just a glimpse of the perfect peace and restoration waiting for us in eternity.
Rest reminds us that we are not home yet. One day, all striving will cease, every burden will be lifted, and we will enter into the fullness of God’s rest forever. The world tells us to work harder; Jesus tells us to rest deeper. When we bring our burdens to Him, He exchanges our exhaustion for His peace.
What burdens are you carrying right now that Jesus is asking you to lay down?
Prayer for today: Jesus, I bring You my heavy load. Teach me to find rest in Your presence and strength in Your promises. Thank You for the promise of eternal rest with You. Help me to live with this hope in mind, trusting that one day all striving will end, and I will rest fully in Your presence. Amen
