Rescued by Grace
The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom. 2 Timothy 4:18
As I was reading this verse, it struck me that it can be understood in two ways. Paul is writing to Timothy with confidence that the Lord will rescue him from the evil deeds of others. But I also realized that these words are just as true in another sense: the Lord rescues us from our own evil deeds.
The Lord freely forgives us when we repent, but maybe you are like me. I often struggle with self-blame. Do you find it hard to forgive yourself and to be free from anger, self-blame and even hating yourself? If so, spend some time meditating on this verse today. Thank God that His forgiveness is complete. He not only forgives our sins but also rescues us from the crushing burden of carrying them. His grace is greater than our failures, and His mercy is stronger than our condemnation.
Prayer for today: Lord God, thank You for reminding us through Your Word that You rescue us completely. Thank You that when we fall, You lift us up; when we repent, You forgive us; and when guilt overwhelms us, Your grace sets us free. Help us to believe what You say about us rather than what our hearts accuse us of. Teach us to rest in Your forgiveness and to walk in the freedom You have given us. I praise You always. Amen.
