Repeated Phrase
Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. 2 Corinthians 12:9
In 2 Corinthians 12:9 we find the greatest author in the New Testament, the guy who underwent the greatest transformation; Christian slaughter turned preacher, the one who opened the door of the gospel to the entire gentile world, the Apostle Paul being confused and confined by a weakness. Three times Paul asked God to fix it. But it didn’t work. Nothing changed. Instead, the Lord told Paul, “My power works best in your weakness.”
In today’s verse God gave Paul this mysterious promise that his power works best in weakness. It may sound like a profoundly unsatisfying response, especially if you are in the fire and asking God to wave his hand and eliminate your shortcomings. However, it is at this moment God wants to show up and show off. This highlights the spiritual battle we are involved in. When is the devil being beaten? Not when we feel great and confident, when it looks like wonderful things are happening, when all is going well. No, the devil is being defeated when we are feeling attacked and feeling weak, when we are not sure how to respond, when in our storms the boat turns over and we come before the Lord pleading with Him for strength to go on one more day and for grace to help us stand. That is when we are winning, when we call on the Father and He shows up, when we acknowledge our weaknesses and ask for God’s help, it gives Him the opportunity to show what an awesome difference His involvement can make.
Be encouraged today as you understand the strength that God will provide in our weaknesses is much greater than any strength that we could muster on our own. Allow God to strengthen you in ways you could never have imagined.
