Praise Flows from the Word
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1Thessalonians 5:16-18
In Psalm 1, the Psalmist describes what it means to live a truly blessed life. “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.”
A person is blessed not because of what they do, but because of what they choose not to do. The blessed person does not follow the ways of those who rebel against God, who disregard His truth, or who mock His ways. Instead, the one who desires to be blessed lives wisely in relationship with God, finding joy in His Word, delighting in it, and meditating on it day and night.
If our focus is on praise, why begin with a passage about God’s Word? Verse 2 gives us the answer: “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.”
We cannot truly delight in God’s law unless we spend time reading and reflecting on it. As we do, the Word of God stirs our hearts toward praise and thanksgiving. Scripture invites us to pray, and prayer naturally becomes an expression of gratitude and worship.
So today, as you pray, praise, and cultivate a heart of thanksgiving, reflect on these questions drawn from Psalm 1:
Verse 1: Where will I choose to find joy and delight today?
Verse 2: How can I delight in God’s Word and remind myself to meditate on Him throughout the day?
Verse 3: What blessings might I experience as I commit myself to living according to God’s Word?
Prayer for today: Father, Loving Father, thank You for inviting me daily into Your loving presence. When I read Your Word, I feel close to You, and my heart overflows with praise. Help me to delight in Your truth, to meditate on it, and to live each day with thanksgiving. Amen
