Planted in His Word, Part III
He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1:3
Psalm 1:3 says, “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.”
There are various types of fruit bearing trees: apples, oranges, cherry, coconut and mango’s to name a few. Each tree bears its own unique type of fruit. Why do these types of trees exist? They exist for the purpose of producing fruit. The same is true for you and me. As followers of Christ, like a tree our true purpose is to grow and bear fruit. We grow as we read and study God’s Word.
Daily we should be drawing closer to Him. Like trees, you and I have a specific purpose, and God has equipped us with special gifts and talents to fulfill the calling He has on each of our lives. The way we discover our purpose and develop our gifts is by being with the Lord and around his people. In fact, bearing good fruit is impossible any other way.
Bearing fruit is just one of the natural ways the eyes can tell if the tree is healthy or not and all the others are the benefits from a growing and healthy tree.
Consider the tree, it first starts out as seeds and then sprouts, goes through seasons of drought or pruning always growing up towards the sun as the seasons come and go. Trees bear fruit, and then they drop them. They go through dormant stages of nothing. But then comes the Spring and once again what once seemed dead comes back to life. Each season a tree experiences is necessary for growth. Take note, although trees must bear fruit, they don’t do it year-round. In fact, it is necessary for them to go through seasons of barrenness so that they may yield a good crop the following year.
When we are planted in the house of God, we are choosing to position ourselves in a safe, protected place that is strong and stable in times of the stormy trials that can come our way. Then and only then do we get to experience the ending of this Psalm which says, “whatever he does shall prosper.” Wow! God desires that our lives would overflow with His blessings so that whatever we do, we would be prosperous. And that is exactly what happens for those who plant themselves in His house.
Prayer for today: Dear God, I thank You for your patience. Your desire is that we would experience the blessing of the Lord on our lives in such a way that we would not be able to contain it. Thank You for reminding me of the only way to receive it, is by getting connected to You. Amen
