Planted in His Word
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. Psalm 1:1-2
Psalm 1:1-2 says “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nr stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.”
To really get God’s Word into your life, you can’t just read it. You need to study it, meditate on it, think about it, and then apply it.
The difference between just reading and studying is simple. When you read, you merely put your eyes on the words. When you study, you engage with the words. You might make notes with a pen or pencil. You may use a good study Bible to compare verses or find a Bible app to compare versions.
Where to start? Consider the investigation questions many of us learned in school: who, what, when, where, why, and how. Those are a great place to start with asking questions of the Bible. Jot them down and then find someone at your church that you can present these questions to.
As you become a student of the Bible, you’ll come to know what the Bible says and what it means. And then you’ll be able to apply it to your life.
Prayer for today: Dear Jesus, thank You for Your Word. It never grows old, it is never stale and it knows how to speak to us Your children at just the right time. As we commit to studying Your word, help us to bring all our worries and cares to You in prayer. Thank You for the peace and comfort that come from knowing You. Amen.
