Peace Always in Every Way
May the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all. 2 Thessalonians 3:16
It always amazes me the way peace-powerful, unexplainable peace given to us by the Father, can fill our hearts making us feel the overwhelming love of God. Thomas Watson says “The world can create trouble in peace, but God can create peace in trouble.”
Paul ended his letters to the Thessalonians with a massive statement about peace, saying: (1) God is the Lord of peace. He possesses total peace within Himself and controls the flow and force of peace. (2) He Himself is peace. It’s one of His attributes. (3) He gives peace. It comes from nowhere else. (4) He gives peace always. There’s no circumstance in life beyond His ability to provide inner peace. (5) He gives peace in every way. It’s hard to comprehend all that means, but it surely involves our spirit, soul, mind, and emotions. (6) His peace is accompanied by His presence—“the Lord be with you all.”
This world is full of distractions, distresses, and disasters. But there is a place of peace—it is in Him, and it is Him! This world offers chaos, but we can find ourselves folded into the Father’s arms surrounded by His love.
David describes in Psalm 16, the kind of peace and joy God brings into our lives isn’t caused by a choice to ignore the hurt; it’s more like a gift we can’t help but experience when we take refuge in our good God (vv. 1–2).
God’s love carries and holds us through our pain and into His love.
Prayer for today: Father, thank You for the way Your tender touch embraces and holds us in our times of joy and pain. Help us to turn in trust to You for healing and reminder of Your love. Amen
