Our Thanksgiving Weapon
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1Thessalonians 5:16-18
After doing a personal Bible study and discovering the truths throughout the book of Joshua, I’ve got to admit the story of Joshua and the Israelites marching around the walls of Jericho has to be one of my favorite Bible stories of all time.
Joshua and the Israelites marched around the city of Jericho for six days. Following God’s instructions, on the seventh day they marched seven times around the city. Then they shouted and the walls fell down! The Israelites went in and conquered their enemy. Praise is powerful. When we rejoice, pray, and give thanks, we are not ignoring our problems, we are declaring that God is greater than them. Praise confuses the enemy and strengthens our spirit.
Learning to speak the Word of God aloud is essential to living the life of victory that Christ died to give us. For too long, we have used our mouths and our words in ways that give Satan access into our lives. It is time for us the people of God to rise up like Joshua and the Israelites did, and praise a holy God! Through praise and the spoken Word, we can bring down the obstacles and rebuild the walls in our lives according to God’s truth.
Negative words and complaining attract the presence of the enemy, but praise and thanksgiving attract the Presence of God. There is nothing more dangerous to Satan than a believer who:
- Walks in love and forgiveness
- Believes and obeys God’s commands
- Prays both for others and in pursuit of a deeper personal relationship with the Lord
Each day as you praise with a heart of thanksgiving, your hope and faith will arise. You will find yourself shedding the old and putting on the new. What “walls” in your life need to come down through the power of praise and speaking God’s Word aloud?
Prayer for today: Almighty God, thank You for the weapon of praise and the power of Your Word. Help me to speak life, faith, and truth over my circumstances. As I praise You, may every obstacle crumble and every chain be broken. I thank You for allowing me to be part of Your glorious plan. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
