New Sight
By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible. Hebrews 11:27
The faith of a mother in Almighty God launched her son into a basket which carried him straight into the arms of Pharaoh’s daughter. This was not a last minute desperate plan. This was a woman who saw beyond the decree and trusted in the Providence of God. The Providential care of God does not end there, it continued as his own mother was called … and then paid by Pharaoh’s household, to nurse him. Do you now understand that God is in control, even when things seem out of control?
Only God could have arranged for this Hebrew baby boy to be brought up in the very household, where a decree had been issued for the death of Hebrew baby boys. When Pharaoh’s heart was hardened and cruelty was at its highest, Israel’s deliverer was born and nurtured in Egypt’s heart. The words of the Psalmist come alive as we see how God spread a table for Moses in the midst of his enemies. Surely God’s goodness and mercy followed him (Moses) right from his earliest days through to adulthood.
Inevitably, however, the day came when, like each of us, Moses had to choose for himself. But the trappings of wealth had not claimed his heart nor dulled his vision. Moses knew what he was called to do and like his mother, although with some resistance, he moved forward in faith.
We read that ‘By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward’ (Hebrews 11:24-26).
Prayer for today: Dear Heavenly Father, help us like Moses not to be deceived by our surroundings, but to keep our eyes fixed on You, for You indeed are our reward. Amen
