Monday Morning Reminder
For the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
Joshua was Moses’ assistant and became the leader of the Israelites after the death of Moses. When he was alive, Moses had spoken these words over Joshua, “Be strong and courageous…for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you”.
But after Moses died, the Lord spoke to Joshua directly. Three times, God told Joshua these same exact words ‘be strong and courageous’. God wanted to remind Joshua to remain firm, because He would be with him, just as He had with Moses. Today as we are faced with so much uncertainty as the news of coronavirus unfolds with each moment, the encouragement is the same ‘be strong and courageous’ for God is with us. Despite what the news might predict, God has not left us, He is still in control.
The news of coronavirus can cause us anxiety, leading to deep worry and fear however, we would do well to start with remembering that Jesus advised his disciples not to be troubled but to trust.
In the same way, Jesus prepared His disciples. At the last Passover supper, He tells them ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid’ (John 14:27).
