Monday Morning Manna
Nevertheless we made our prayer to our God, and because of them we set a watch against them day and night. Nehemiah 4:9
Yesterday we heard from Evangelist-elect Collin Phillips, speaking from Nehemiah 4 his sermon titled Seeking God When Facing Opposition. In the foundation scripture we find Nehemiah facing some severe and violent oppositions while trying to rebuild the walls and gates of Jerusalem. Today, we can take a page from this story and remain encouraged to continue on as we face the unknowns during this time of global pandemic. What really struck me as I recalled this account is Nehemiah’s prayer – no matter how bad the circumstances – Nehemiah prayed to God, and trusted in Him. With this Evangelist Phillips reminded us no matter the circumstances, do not get distracted –remain in prayer looking to God.
If you know Jesus Christ and attempt to accomplish anything for Him, as with Nehemiah the enemy will oppose you. Keep looking to God. He is the Author and finisher of our faith. It is in God we find strength and courage to go on. The enemy of our soul will always find ways to take advantage of the weaknesses and discouragement. Against every effort on our part to get our lives together and recover from damage, hurt, and ruin, we will experience opposition from the enemy. We must not give into him, remain strong seek God during times of difficulty.
Nehemiah and his fellow workers were being mocked and ridiculed, they were despised and threatened with attack, yet Nehemiah simply says, ‘Nevertheless we made our prayer to our God.’ And, of course, we know the end of the story … Nehemiah’s trust in God was rewarded: the plot against him and his workers came to a plot twist and the work that God had given him to do: the work of rebuilding the walls was completed.
In the end there is a major lessons to take away from this story –when we are facing opposition, we should do so with perseverance and above all, prayer. As we do this, God will enable us to solve the problems that face us and move toward rebuilding and living closer with Him.
