Monday Morning Manna
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:7-8
Closing out our week of Repentance, we heard from no other than our spiritual leader Rev. Dr. Orville Harris. Speaking from Romans 8:7-8, his sermon titled Lord, We Are Sorry for Not Trusting You. This sermon aim was for us to enter into a new covenant, a new agreement with God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Repent! Turn from our sins, from the carnal man and look to God, a righteous and loving Father who has never failed us yet.
This week the church lamented for not trusting in God. Not moving when He said to move, or doing what He said to do. Instead we found ourselves trusting self. Finding our own ways to meet our needs and protecting self. Not anymore, after this week I choose to find refuge in God.
We ought to take trust out of self and out it into Jesus Christ bringing every thought to the captivity of His truth. We are called to move as God instructed the Israelite’s to. Dr. Harris mentioned in the past they were told to trust God and then move, now we are being told to move and watch God. If we ensure that our lives are right with God through repentance of self and forgiveness of others, and there’s no loophole through which the enemy can gain control, we can turn towards God and begin to see things in a different light, from His perspective. Then His purposes can be worked out in our lives: ‘Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well’ (Matthew 6:33).
In closing Dr. Harris reminded us of the words written in Joshua 24:15 “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Choose today whom you will look to for help. Choose today who you will focus on when life storms come your way. As for me, I will echo the words of Joshua—I will trust and serve the Lord. The truth is that, in God, trust is a place of safety, security, protection and strength. So today let`s stop trusting in ourselves and choose to trust in God … in all things!
