Monday Morning Manna
But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. Matthew 6:6
The topic of prayer is so vast and there is so much to say about it, discussions could go one for an entire year. However, I have found that praying seems to be something many people struggle with it at some point or another. Now, there could be a variety of reasons for this. With so many distractions around us, we may battle to focus. But there is one common theme that continues to come up, self. We don’t pray because we cannot find the right words to say. Our own perception of what we think prayer should sound like, the words we ought to use may also hinder us in our praying.
Unless you are speaking about a sensitive matter no one thinks twice before calling on their earthly parent(s), so why do we do this when talking to our Heavenly Father. When we pray, we should not desperately be trying to get God’s attention by using fanciful words or impressive language. In fact, this scripture tells me that our many words and meaningless repetitions are not what God wants (see Matthew 6). No! Just as we would speak with our earthly father, we ought to speak to ours.
This week make time to talk with God in a way that you feel comfortable. Don’t make prayer more complicated than what it should be, just talk to Him as you would any earthly parent. God loves us and cares deeply about the things that affect our lives. He knows our needs, our heartaches, our desperations, our desires and only He has the answer to them all.
Be encouraged in knowing that God pays attention to us when we call on Him, no matter where we are at in our lives. We simply need to turn our attention to Him, allow our heart to connect with His heart, and be less concerned with being eloquent in our conversations with Him.
Prayer for today: Daddy God, Thank You, Lord, that You hear every prayer that I pray, whether it comes from eloquent or from stuttering lips. Thank You that Your ears are attentive to the cries of my heart. Thank You for Your mercy and loving-kindness towards me. Amen.
