Monday Morning Manna
One day David asked, “Is anyone in Saul’s family still alive—anyone to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” 2 Samuel 9:1
Throughout the Bible, God shows us He is a provider. He tells us not to worry because He is our Source. This is life changing reminder Minister Nigel Thomas shared with us yesterday. Speaking from 2 Samuel 9:1-12, Minister Thomas sermon titled The Glorious Inheritance. Looking at the story of Mephibosheth, we discovered some of the things we can learn from the way he was treated by King David. Mephibosheth – a crippled nobody, lame in both feet, was welcomed into the household of the king. Mephibosheth must have felt the greatest release at that moment. Expecting a sword to sever his neck from his head, he heard the unbelievable words of acceptance from the King. This was his glorious inheritance, to be welcomed into the household of faith.
Minister Thomas posed the question – Do you know you could inherit the right things from the wrong source? Then went onto explain this is exactly what happened to Mephibosheth. Because it was the wrong source, Saul, Mephibosheth became crippled. However, when he got connected to the right source he was a part of a movement that was far greater. The inheritance Mephibosheth received through the covenant Jonathan made with David was God’s grace. Mephibosheth was redeemed, he received the inheritance and now sits in the lineage of our Savior Christ Jesus. It is no doubt David’s words changed Mephibosheth’s life. Words have a powerful way of bringing healing and restoration. Acceptance is the most wonderful feeling.
My all-time favorite verse is Romans 8:28 God is able to take the very thing that is crippling you and make it good. It reads “And this we know that all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Why? Because it’s a daily reminder that things are not always well, however God can take even those things meant to harm you and turn it into something good. Or in the case of Mephibosheth God is able to take the very thing that is crippling him and make it good. COVID-19, God can take the very thing that is crippling our nation and make it all good.
My favorite part, and what I will take from all that was said is the reminder that we are children of faith. As children of faith even though we have fallen though we live a subpar life in sin, we are about to receive an inheritance through Jesus Christ but first you must remain in the family. Minister Nigel taught we earn this great inheritance through faith in Jesus Christ. The moment you accept and believe, you can be a part of this Glorious Inheritance.
Finally, consider the words spoken here was penned thousands of years ago, yet remains alive today for you and for me. What David did for Mephibosheth, God does for us. Just as the king brought the outcast into the palace and made him a son, God adopts us into his family. You and I are Mephibosheths, too. We too can receive this Glorious Inheritance if only we believe. The blessings of Gods protection, peace, and provision it will come through as long as we are in the family we will get it! Stay true to the correct source and you will receive the inheritance!!!
