Monday Morning Manna
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:1
There are a number of services that are vital to the nation’s health, safety and security. Essential workers are those who conduct a range of operations and services that are critical to our infrastructure. These days we are hearing all about essential workers and the importance of those jobs to keep our nation running. In the Kingdom of God there is an essential element to the believers’ walk – love. Love is the essential ingredient to the follower of Christ. Knowing all, doing all, saying all, giving all away means nothing if we don’t have love! Yesterday, in our Zoom worship service, using the background Scripture 1 Corinthians 13:1-7, Sis. Lexis Harris spoke on God’s Call to Love. I really like what the Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13 and Sis. Lexis emphasized this truth, love is the most important quality in God’s Kingdom. Sis. Lexis spoke to us in love and challenged us to check in with God to love because as she says, “without true love nothing we do matters.”
Sis. Lexis challenged us to keep the essential ingredient at the front of all that we do because our work for the Lord must be done in love. In doing so we must consider these two elements:
- How we love each other
- The way we love ourselves (self-love)
The relationship between self-love and our love for each other goes hand in hand. Often it might be easy for us to love others and sometimes overly cruel to ourselves. To combat this Sis. Lexis shared with us some tools we can use to focus on self-love such as, meditation, spending time in God’s word or taking care of your earthly temple in having a healthy meal.
In wrapping up this message on love, Sis. Lexis shared with us the account of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). This is the account of one person desperately in need of help, three persons who could have helped (A priest, a Levite, and a Good Samaritan) but only one stopped to help. If we love our neighbor then we help them. Sis. Lexis reminded us that titles and gifts mean nothing if we aren’t using them for the good of others. True love seeks only the good of others; it is unselfish. There is a graciousness about the person who acts from Godly love, a charm that the world cannot give. Real love seeks the welfare of others not self.
This week let us all do some soul searching and ask the question, do I show love like this?
