Monday Morning Manna
And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?” Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. Acts 19:15-16
There are certain phrases we grew up hearing and as such repeated them without any deeper thought behind it. Yes, there is power in the name of Jesus, but do we know Him? Do you have a relationship with Jesus so that when you call on Him, He answers, mountains move and strong holds are broken? Prior to this moment, you may have gotten away with using His name before without having the rightful relationship with Him, but after reading this you will understand that using the name of Jesus without a connection has no power! Just read Acts 19. This is the question that was asked in yesterday’s service by our Minister Tanisha Grandison. Speaking from Acts 19:13-18, Minister Grandison sermon titled – Who Are You?
Many call on the name of God, use His name in their arguments and often misuse Gods because there is no connection between them and the Father. In Acts chapter 19 we read of God working wonders through the hands of Paul. In fact in verse 12 it says “even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.” How did the handkerchiefs or aprons work? – Through the hand of God working in man. We are not told that Paul did these unusual miracles, but that God worked them by the hands of Paul. This is where the people went wrong. They did not understand that Paul was not performing these miracles on his own, instead it was through a greater source – God. So we find that the seven sons of Sceva saw this move and attempted to repeat them; however, the evil spirits overpowered them (verse 15) because they were using the names as a guess and not connected to the Source (God).
Minister Grandison asked the question – Who Are You? Who are you connected to? Who is keeping you throughout these troubled times? We never want to think that we are standing and in fact we are falling, so make sure you are standing on solid ground. We stand in Jesus name. We fight in Jesus name. When the enemy sees us coming, he should run in fear because we are fighting with an army that is backed up by and associated with the name of Jesus!
Minister Grandison encouraged us that every generation must establish their own connection with God so that they can experience the hand of God for themselves. Our faith in God will keep us on this journey. This week do not pretend. Do not feel trapped by fear, we already have the solution to the problem and His name is Jesus! Endeavor to grow in your relationship with the Lord knowing only He has the ability to meet our need, His own words declare His willingness to help, heal and set free. Be filled by the power of the Holy Spirit and stand firm in faith.
