Minority Report
Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” Numbers 13:31-32
Prior to the account read in Numbers 13 God has delivered the children of Israel from bondage to bring them into the Promise Land. We call this the Great Exodus. God delivered them out of something (bondage) so that He can walk them into something new (The Promise Land). Yet once again we find the Children of Israel missing out because they did not trust in God. They are right on the border of the Promise Land, right at the door of what God has given them and they are going to choose not to go all because they did not believe in the Minority Report.
Joshua and Caleb did not deny the fact that there were giants in the land, but he was tied to that promise that came from God to Moses which says I AM GOING TO GIVE YOU THIS LAND!
Caleb and Joshua were two of the 12 spies that came back with a Minority Report.
– There’s ten spies that come back talking about giants there’s two spies that come back talking about grapes
– There’s ten spies that come back talking about problems there’s two spies that come back talking about promises
Out of ten there were the only two who had faith and trusted in God’s word.
Numbers 13 verses 1 and 2, we find God giving Moses the instructions. It reads “And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, everyone a leader among them.”
God said I want you to send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am GIVING to the children of Israel. God did NOT say is – I want you to pick men out that will validate whether or not I’m true to my Word.
The twelve were sent to check out the inhabitants of the land – were they strong or weak, few or many. The twelve were sent to check out the countryside whether the land was good or bad. Israel’s spies or search party were commissioned be of good courage in what they witnessed. But they were not and, in the end, missed out on the Promise Land.
It was not their assignment to bring back a report of whether or not God was God, it was not their assignment to bring back a report as to whether or not God was giving them the land He (God) had already told them in verse 2 I AM GIVING you the land. But fear caused them not to believe.
Today I want to remind you that faith can turn bad news into a good report. Keep trusting in God’s promises and walk into your promise land.
