Martha – From Distracted to Devoted
But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things. Luke 10:41, ESV
In the Gospel of Luke 10, Martha welcomed Jesus into her home but became overwhelmed with serving.
Her flaw? Distraction and comparison.
Her mess? Missing the moment while managing responsibilities.
While Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, Martha complained. But Jesus gently corrected her: “Only one thing is needed.”
Later, in John 11, we see growth. When Lazarus died, Martha declared, “I believe that You are the Messiah.” Correction became transformation. Purpose requires presence. You can be busy for God and still miss intimacy with God.
Prayer for today: Lord, quiet my anxious heart. Help me prioritize Your presence over performance. Teach me to sit before I serve. Align my activity with intimacy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
